CEO Elon Musk confirmed the long-rumored pickup truck when he presented a sketch of the vehicle during a Tesla Semi unveiling event.

Earlier this year, Musk had said that the auto company planned to show off an electric pickup sometime within the next couple of years.

Musk also said the final Model 3 will be unveiled in July. It struggled to get off the ground due to manufacturing bottlenecks, and the semi announcement was delayed to November 2017.

"I promise that we will make a pickup truck right after Model Y. Have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for nearly five years".

Musk thanked the Tesla faithful in a Boxing Day tweet for their patience, saying he already has the core design and engineering elements in mind for a pickup and is "dying to build it". "Have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for nearly 5 years".

Star Wars Actor Alfie Curtis Dead At 87
Alfie Curtis' other credits include the 1980s TV series Cribb as well as 1980s classic The Elephant Man opposite John Hurt. The entertainment world is in mourning following the death of Star Wars actor Alfie Curtis . "I don't like you, either".

The Model Y is a compact crossover based on the Model 3, and is set to go on sale in 2019 or 2020.

After the launch of the Model Y, Tesla had already announced plans for the pick-up, an electric cargo van and a minibus - all likely based on the platform of the Model X SUV.

The pickup truck market is a big one with the Ford F series of pickup trucks being the biggest selling vehicle of any kind in the world. The CEO didn't elaborate on what the feature would be. "That will be a big focus next year, with primary remaining Model 3 ramp".

Of course, there are still a lot of promises Tesla needs to address before it can even begin discussing the idea of a Tesla pickup truck.
