Bitterly cold air is expected to push southward into the region, and combined with steady winds from the north, dangerously cold wind chill temperatures are likely Saturday night through Monday night. Highs through the New Year for most will not top 0° (Fahrenheit). It is possible that the Wind Chill Advisory will need to be extended into Wednesday morning as well. Wind chills of 5-15 below.

Wind chills down to 25 below are forecast New Year's Eve night, and down to 15 below before then, as the bone-chilling weather is expected to continue well into next week.

High temperatures today will reach the mid teens, but with a north wind at 5 to 15 miles per hour, wind chill values will range from 0 to -10 degrees throughout the day. It doesn't take long for frost bite and hypothermia to occur in these conditions. Wind chill values dip below 0° as we prepare to ring in the new year.

Anyone expecting to fearless the elements this evening and overnight into Monday morning should dress warmly and prepare to protect exposed skin on hands and the face, where frostbite could develop in less than 30 minutes.
