Perhaps the biggest award This Is Us could have won was Best Drama, where it was the only network series in with heavyweights from Netflix (The Crown and Stranger Things), HBO (Game of Thrones) and Hulu (The Handmaid's Tale). But there was progress, too: Sterling K Brown became the first black man to win the award for best actor in a TV drama (for This is Us), while Aziz Ansari became the first Asian man to win best actor in a TV comedy (for Master of None). That went to Laura Dern, who capped off a big year be being recognized for her role as Renata Klein in Big Little Lies.
