Haley points to a stop to testing as well as discussion about banning the North's nuclear weapons.

President Donald Trump's United Nations ambassador said Sunday the administration isn't changing its conditions regarding talks with North Korea amid growing tensions over the North's nuclear and missile programs. Kim accepted Moon's proposal.

Trump had said on Saturday that he was open to talking to Kim. He earlier responded to Kim's New Year's Day address by warning that he has a much bigger and more powerful "nuclear button".

If the North agrees, one of the top agenda items will be whether the two Koreas' sportspeople make joint entrances to the opening and closing ceremonies, as they did for Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and the 2006 Winter Games in Torino.

Athletes from the two Koreas took similar steps at worldwide sporting events during an earlier era of inter-Korean detente.

This week the USA and South Korea agreed to suspend military exercises off the Korean Peninsula until after the Winter Olympic Games. But such symbols of reduced animosity would receive widespread attention at Pyeongchang after a year of heightened nuclear tensions during which Kim and Trump traded threats of nuclear war and crude personal attacks.

Russian Federation criticises United States decision to call UN meeting on Iranian protests
She called on all of her other colleagues in the Security Council to join her in amplifying the message of the Iranian people. Earlier in the week, the USA government announced it was suspending security assistance to the country.

The International Olympic Committee has "extended the deadline" for North Korea's participation in the Winter Olympics, it announced on Monday. But North Korea could demand some rewards in exchange for those steps, such as the revival of stalled cooperation projects that are lucrative for the North or the suspensions of annual U.S.

The drills' suspension is something that South Korea can not accept in consideration of its relations with the USA, its main ally, which is seeking increased pressure and sanctions on the North.

"The two leaders agreed to de-conflict the Olympics and our military exercises so that United States and Republic of Korea forces can focus on ensuring the security of the Games", a White House statement said.

Hayley stressed during the interview that USA tension with North Korea is a "serious situation, and [Kim] can't sit there and imply that he's going to destroy the United States without us reminding him of the facts and the reality that if you go there, it's not us that's going to be detroyed, it's you".

During a different Sunday talk show interview, CIA Director Mike Pompeo also came to the president's defense, telling Fox News that the nuclear button tweet was "entirely consistent with what we're trying to communicate" to the North Korean leader.

The South Korean government on Tuesday will announce its official view on the previous administration's 2015 deal with Japan meant to resolve the issue of wartime "comfort women", with several diplomatic sources saying Seoul will call on Tokyo to voluntarily take additional action.
