Gandhi's statue damaged, one man arrested

One person was arrested in Kannur where the glasses and the garland on the Mahatma's statue were broken. Ram Dinesh Tiwari, SHO, Nagra, said that the statue was damaged and a poster was also found pasted on it.

The Uttar Pradesh police has registered a case over the desecration of Hanuman's statue in Kharua village on Wednesday.

In wake of the recent attacks on statues of prominent personalities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh condemned these incidents and have urged states to take stern action against those accountable.

On Wednesday unidentified miscreants poured paint on the bust of Dr BR Ambedkar in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai. According to reports, Chennai police took cognizance of the matter and rushed to the spot at around 9 am.

These incidents of vandalism are the latest in a series of similar incidents being reported from various parts of the country since the BJP won Tripura elections. The police are now on the lookout for the miscreants. There were reports that in Tripura itself, another statue of Lenin was vandalised in the state. Over the last three days, statues of Periyar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee were vandalised in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
