Britain very close to Brexit transition deal with the European Union: minister

The European Union offered Britain "solidarity" yesterday after London accused Russian Federation of a nerve agent attack on British soil, but held off any threat of new sanctions as Prime Minister Theresa May considers her own response.

I want the broadest and deepest possible agreement-covering more sectors and co-operating more fully than any Free Trade Agreement anywhere in the world today.

Britain must "translate speeches into treaties" and come up with a detailed plan for its post-Brexit ties with the EU, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said Tuesday.

Goldman Sachs and UBS said last week they were starting to transfer some bankers to Frankfurt in preparation for Britain's exit from the EU.

He added: "For the moment, it is not unlikely that the negotiations will end up with a bad result, a bad result for the European Union but worse for the UK".

Carmakers have fired yet another warning to prime minister Theresa May as the reality of Brexit begins to sink in.

But running through the three options for Northern Ireland, Juncker - who was flanked by the EU's Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier and his former Chief of Cabinet Martin Selmayr - said it was up to the come up with a workable solution that would avoid the need for a hard border.

Juncker added: "I would rather have preferred for Britons not to decide to leave the European Union but anyone who leaves the EU has to know frankly what this means".

'If you decide to jettison, leave behind, the common agreements and rules, then you have to accept that things can not remain as they are'.

May and EU27 leaders is set to hold a new round Brexit negotiation on March 22 and 23, with hopes for the consolidation of a transition deal immediately following March 29, 2019, when Britain will become a third country.

"The UK is choosing to leave the union, the single market and the customs union, we have noted that".

Rather than adopting an existing model such as membership of the European Economic Area or the European Free Trade Association (the so-called Norway model) or looking to replicate a Canada-style Free Trade Agreement, the United Kingdom will continue to press for a bespoke deal which is tailored for United Kingdom interests.

The EU has consistently said since the June 2016 referendum that it's not looking to punish Britain for its vote and is working to get a deal on the future relationship that works for both sides but which is consistent with its rules.

'We are monitoring the situation as the negotiations unfold and look forward to receiving additional clarity at the March council, ' said Honda's European government affairs manager Patrick Keating.
