Trump's personal assistant fired for security issue, report says

McEntee's firing follows the departure of Greenwich native Hope Hicks, the White House communications director who, like McEntee, was one of Trump's longest-serving aides.

Trump reelection campaign manager Brad Parscale announced McEntee's hire alongside that of Katrina Pierson, a Trump campaign spokesperson in 2016 who will join the 2020 campaign as a senior adviser.

McEntee was sacked and escorted out of the White House Monday, CNN reported, due to difficulties obtaining a permanent security clearance, an issue that has led to the departure of several White House staffers. The alleged crimes are said to not be related to Trump. CNN added more specifically that McEntee is "currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes".

Trump's campaign hired him soon after he was sacked from his White House job. A since-fired State Department employee said this morning that Tillerson found out he was sacked when he saw Trump's tweet. According to a press release from the Trump campaign, McEntee will re-join the Trump campaign as a senior adviser.

The Wall Street Journal first reported Mr McEntee's sacking, citing a security issue.

White House aides were stunned when they learned of McEntee's sudden departure, two sources tell CNN.

Mr McEntee won't be fully out of the Trump orbit, however. "John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country". His staff secretary, Rob Porter, resigned February 7 after reports that two ex-wives had accused him of domestic violence.

USA media reported his abrupt exit came about due to difficulties in obtaining a full security clearance.
