Nixon also blames Cuomo for condoning a splinter group of Democrats in the state senate, the Independent Democratic Conference, which she says has kept Republicans in power in that chamber throughout Cuomo's tenure. "I do not believe she has the qualifications or the record".

Actress Cynthia Nixon (left) officially jumped into the race for governor of NY on Monday, setting off what promises to be a tumultuous six months as she challenges Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in this year's Democratic primary. Being an actress and celebrity doesn't make you qualified for public office.

While falling short of apologizing, she said it was not her intention to suggest "Nixon's identity has any bearing on her candidacy". "She isn't qualified to be the governor".

Nixon, according to the New York Post, brushed off Quinn's remarks, saying, "Her being a lesbian and my being a lesbian" is not the issue. "Being an actress and celebrity doesn't make you qualified for public office", Quinn said.

"My being a lesbian or her being a lesbian, I think, has nothing to do with why we're running for office", Nixon told reporters.

Cuomo's campaign said the two-term governor's progressive wins include legalized gay marriage, tough gun laws, a $15 minimum wage, expanded school funding and a ban on a drilling technique known as fracking.

The EU also condemned the militarization of the peninsula that continues to impact the security situation in the Black Sea region.

The former City Council speaker came closer to landing a clean punch in questioning how Nixon would be able to manage a complex state bureaucracy when "she's never run an organization".

Nixon said she voted for Cuomo eight years ago in hopes of his being a "real Democrat" but that "New York's eight years under the Cuomo administration have been an exercise in living with disappointment, dysfunction, and dishonesty".

Nixon didn't seem all too bothered by Quinn's comments, however.

Marinoni served as senior adviser for community partnerships in New York City, reporting directly to the city's Deputy Mayor Richard Buery, before she resigned earlier this month, presumably to help with her wife's campaign.

"She's an accomplished actress, a supporter of political causes and that's a good thing".

"Going around the state talking to people, hearing about their concerns", she said. It's time for an outsider. In an expertly political move, she quickly pivoted the conversation from Quinn's name-calling to the need for ending the corruption in Albany.
