In an attempt to ensure that many people are subscribing to its new streaming service, YouTube is reportedly increasing the advertisements that will pop up in between music videos.

Mr. Cohen's words may not have been the best move in marketing the new music-streaming service YouTube will launch. Once complete, YouTube works with the business to devise a business plan that targets an audience looking for videos related to what service the business offers.

People who treat YouTube like a music service, those passively listening for long periods of time, will encounter more ads, according to Lyor Cohen, the company's global head of music.

YouTube generated an estimated $10 billion in revenue past year, nearly all from advertising, and could make even more if it sells subscriptions.

Doing a quick Google search, you'll find many videos demonstrating how to watch videos ad-free on the platform. YouTube does too, but at significantly lower royalty rates than dedicated music services.

In addition, YouTube reaches a younger demographic, so small businesses should keep in mind that they may need other ways to reach to those over the age of 35, for example.
