The new model will make its official debut later this week at the NY and Vancouver International Auto Shows.

The hybrid version of the RAV4 will have a 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to the usual Toyota electric setup - only this time the auto features a second electric motor powering the rear wheels, allowing the hybrid version to offer four-wheel drive for the first time. An optional 8-inch can be had with navigation, as can wireless charging and a JBL premium audio system.

The new-generation Toyota RAV4 built on the company's "Toyota New Global Architecture" a.k.a. TNGA platform, which now underpins the new Camry, Prius, C-HR, and the recently unveiled Corolla hatchback.

Of course, the five-door iM was introduced in Canada for the 2016 model year under the Scion banner, but after the brand disappeared, the vehicle moved over to Toyota.

The RAV4 is available with two engine options: a conventional 2.5-litre petrol and a hybrid 2.5-litre petrol unit. The latter features the ability to send up to 50 percent of the engine's power to the SUV's rear wheels, and it can also divvy up power between the left- and right-side tires to improve cornering. On the other end of the spectrum, the new RAV4 Hybrid XSE is billed as the sportiest model.

The new generation doesn't mess with success.

S.Korea steel shares jump ahead of possible USA trade deal
This appeared to be part of an effort to stop China from using South Korea as a conduit for steel exports to the United States. This also does not affect South Korean automakers because they are now exporting no pick-up truck to the United States.

The TNGA platform, with its low centre of gravity and optimised weight distribution, further strengthens the RAV4's dynamic capabilities, enabling a more rigid body construction and more precise, stable and accurate responses to driver inputs.

The latest version of Toyota's Entune infotainment system finally gets Apple CarPlay smartphone projection technology.

The New York International Auto Show kicks off this weekend, featuring some of the newest and hottest cars, and News 12 Connecticut's Eric Landskroner got a sneak peek Wednesday. Also standard is Road Sign Assist, which sees certain types of road signs such as stop, speed, yield, and do not enter, and displays them on the multi-information display between the main gauges. Again, Toyota is mum on powertrain details, but the automaker did say that a continuously variable transmission will be standard and that the hybrid will be the highest-performance RAV4 variant.

There will be three different trim levels, all powered by a new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine that replaces the iM's 1.8-litre engine, though it is smaller, lighter, and quieter. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual and a CVT transmission. It features piano black accents on the outside, LED headlights and sport-tuned suspension.

The 2019 Corolla Hatchback goes on sale this summer, and pricing should be revealed a bit closer to its appearance in dealers.
