Why Conor McGregor Wasn't Asked To Replace Tony Ferguson At UFC 223

Given the fact that Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson had been cancelled on three occasions prior to UFC 223, Conor McGregor seemed to be suggesting last week that he would be ready to step in should the fight fall apart for the fourth time. Tony Ferguson suffered a freak injury by tweaking his knee while on the set of FOX this Thursday for media obligations, tearing his LCL off the bone.

No. 1 ranked featherweight Holloway will now step up a division to challenge Nurmagomedov and will look to join McGregor as the second fighter in history to hold titles simultaneously in two different weight classes.

McGregor is now the official lightweight champion, but he is expected to lose that title as soon as Nurmagomedov and Holloway face off in the Octagon.

White spoke to ESPN Sunday night and said McGregor wasn't considered to fill in for Ferguson.

For the record, Dana White says he didn't want to book Conor on short notice. but you think Team Khabib gives a damn?? "That's a tough weight cut for him", he said. And Conor isn't exactly the guy I want to throw in as a late replacement fighter.

Turkey has long complained about USA support for the SDF, among a number of irritants to ties with the leading North Atlantic Treaty Organisation power.

The good news here for fans is that White thinks McGregor could make his return to the Octagon in September.

Just two month ago, Max Holloway pulled out of his March 3 title defense against Frankie Edgar due to a leg injury.

Now, he'll either get a shot at Holloway who could come into the fight off the back of a loss, or he could go up against Blessed who could have a championship title draped over each shoulder. Lack of training camp aside, it will be interesting to see how Holloway's injury holds up against Khabib. But they called me and said Max Holloway.

Nurmagomedov then publicly questioned McGregor by tweeting: "Where are you now?" Happy Easter to everyone out there, I believe there is a silver lining in this nightmare of reality, because this ain't an Aprils Fools. "The victor of this fight will be the champion".

Holloway's last appearance in the octagon was in December, where he scored a third round TKO win over Jose Aldo in UFC 218. Not only did he miss two full years due to a knee injury between 2014 and 2016, he withdrew from his third attempt at facing Ferguson last March for the interim 155-pound title after being hospitalized for a hard weight cut.
