Modi's BJP party kicks into election mode in India with massive rally

"Rahul baba says the Modi government should give an account of its four years in power".

"We believe that we are once again going to form the government with overwhelming majority in 2019", he said.

Modi and Shah's statements to the BJP cadre come at a time when there has been a wave of protests against the softening of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by the Supreme Court, and the government's alleged inability to defend the law. As per the current schedule, five states - Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim - would go to polls along with the Lok Sabha election.

When his attention was drawn to Modi's oft-repeated assertion that his party is working towards ushering in "Congress mukt Bharat", Shah clarified, "When we said Congress mukt Bharat, we did not mean that we wanted to eliminate the party from the country".
