Some of the features of the new Gmail were detailed in media reports.

In what is called "confidential mode", Gmail will let users set an expiration date on emails so that, after a certain point, recipients can't forward, copy, download or print these messages.

Instead, Gmail sends the recipient a dummy email with a hyperlink to the actual self-expiring message, which is what actually disappears when time expires. Also, on the recipient end, Gmail will show the content of confidential emails as a link which will verify a user's identity before showing the email content. "We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can't share anything yet-archive this for now, and we'll let you know when it's time to hit send", the company teased.

Since Google is working on some major updates now, it looks like there are plenty of new features to get excited about it.

"Working on an email service is hard as you have to be compatible with all sorts of email providers and email clients". The report describes that on the recipient's side, the person used the existing version of Gmail and received a link to view the confidential email.

As of now, there is no information about this feature being available to non-Gmail users. This will be especially useful for sending confidential emails or emails that you feel should be read and deleted for privacy purposes.

There are many similarities between ProtonMail and the new Gmail design, but one of the main differences between the two services is how they handle the self-destructing emails.

The men took Google to court when the company refused to remove search results about their convictions, including links to news articles that the businessmen claimed were no longer relevant. This will likely make Gmail easier to load and use, and will also bring new features to the popular open email platform. Unless protection is offered against the incredibly simple process of taking a screenshot of any supposedly confidential mail, the whole feature might well be useless, and will simply protect against inbox searches post the expiry of the email.
