- BMW Concept iX3 previews the all-electric X3. "That means a pure combustion engine, plug-in hybrid or battery powered drive system can be integrated into any model as desired". In addition, the BMW Concept iX3 features a specially developed rear axle subframe and specific chassis integration.

According to BMW, such levels of tweaks can be expected in its future electrified models as well. This makes it easier to integrate the same powertrain into different vehicle architectures.

The BMW Concept iX3 represents another milestone on the road to locally emission-free driving under the BMW Group's electrification strategy. The thinly-veiled concept is offering up a preview of the brand's first electric SUV, which will be imported to Europe and the US from China. A pleasurable ride, the iX3 exerts a power output of 200 kW/270 hp.

Under the skin is BMW's latest electric powertrain which bundles the motor, transmission and electronics in to a new Electric Drive Component, with more dense batteries offering weight and packaging advantages too. Still, it is known that it would have around a 70kWh battery, which can be charged in just half an hour at a 150kW fast-charge station.

Electric mobility also means a differentiation in design. The biggest change is certainly the standard kidney grille, which has been replaced with the linked unit inspired from the iVision Dynamics Concept. Its signature kidney grilles are now closed to better manage airflow at the front of the auto while an interesting set of alloy wheels aid in reducing the turbulence caused by conventional spoked wheels.

Finished in a striking matt Moonstone Silver, by far the most interesting aspects of the X3-derived design of the concept are the details, such as its conjoined, blue-accented version of the iconic "double-kidney" grille. There's also lots of blue highlighting to reinforce the car's electric credentials, while it also gets "aerodynamically optimised" alloy wheels. It's an X3-sized crossover designed and sold by the company's i brand. BMW is still not mentioning when their first all-electric crossover will reach the public.
