President Trump said he had agreed a date and location for a summit with Kim Jong-un, the North Korean dictator, but insisted that a withdrawal of U.S. troops from South Korea was "not on the table".

The meeting is to ascertain the progress made ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The details have already been worked out.

Trump and President Moon Jae-in's meeting marks the third summit for the pair. "We'll be announcing it soon".

Trump has been stressing since his presidential campaign that North Korea grew its nuclear weight despite the American forces' presence in South Korea and also that Washington was not getting adequate compensation for maintaining those troops stationed mainly to defend Japan, another of the US's close ally in the region.

Trump's meeting with Kim is expected later this month or in early June.

According to South Korea, Kim has said he would be willing to give up his nukes if the United States commits to a formal end to the war and pledges not to attack the North.

North Korea to Soon Release Three US Prisoners
Kim Dong-chul was arrested in October 2016 and sentenced to 10 years of hard labor on charges of spying. While Kim has long insisted that USA troops leave the peninsula, and railed against the annual U.S.

But Trump also sounded a note of caution, saying he was prepared to walk away if USA demands for North Korea to relinquish its atomic arsenal in a complete, verifiable and irreversible way were not met.

"We are carried away by Kim Jong Un's sudden deceitful peace offensive", he said after police intervened in Saturday's launch, "but just a while ago he blackmailed us and the whole world with nuclear and missile provocations, while killing his own family members and executives".

The warmth in relations between North and South has led to a successful recent summit between the two leaders when they announced denuclearization and path for reunification.

"President Trump and President Moon will continue their close coordination on developments regarding the Korean Peninsula following the April 27 inter-Korean Summit", the statement continued. Trump has also acknowledged the positive role played by Chinese leadership in resolving Korean crisis.

Trump also hinted Friday that good news is coming on the three Americans now being held as prisoners by North Korea.

"We're doing very well with the hostages, we're in constant contact with the leadership, we're in constant contact with North Korea", the president said on the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base.
