Iowa Is One Step Away from Passing the Country's Most Pro-Life Legislation

Kim Reynolds said she plans to sign a six-week abortion ban into law on Friday.

The legislation would bar an abortion when a fetal heartbeat is detected - which can occur as soon as six weeks into pregnancy.

As pro-lifers rejoice, Gov. Reynolds says she expects the battle over the bill to continue in the courts.

Reynolds signed the bill at the governor's office at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.

"By passing an intentionally unconstitutional bill, Iowa Republicans have declared that they do not care about the foundational values of our state, or Iowa's future", Planned Parenthood Voters of Iowa said. The legislation prohibits doctors from performing abortions after they've detected fetal heartbeats in pregnant women.

The Iowa governor signed the bill recently passed by the state's legislature, which serves as the strictest abortion law in the nation.

A medical emergency would apply to an abortion performed to preserve the life of the woman whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, illness or injury, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy.

Tesla's Fremont facility is "jammed to the grills", so the Model Y needs to be produced at a new location. Excluding one-time expenses such as stock-based compensation, the company lost $3.35 per share.

The legislation will nearly certainly draw a swift court challenge and the move sets the scene for another lengthy legal battle as anti-abortion lawmakers ultimately eye the landmark Roe v Wade 1973 supreme court ruling that legalized abortion in the US.

Within a half hour, the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa announced it will go to court to block implementation of the law before it takes effect July 1. Don't know. But a case like this usually-it's going to take a while to get all the way up to the Supreme Court.

"It's shameful that when Planned Parenthood heard lawmakers were introducing legislation to ban abortion, we were outraged - but we weren't surprised", said Suzanna de Baca, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, reports the Register.

Several states have attempted to advance abortion bans in recent years.

"However, this is bigger than just a law", she said.

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, has introduced the Heartbeat Protection Act, a similar proposal, in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"This legislation affirms the scientific fact that human life begins at conception", the American Family Association, a pro-life Christian group in MS, said in a statement. This would not apply to medical diagnostic samples, or forensic investigations, or to fetal body parts donated for medical research after a miscarriage or stillbirth.
