Giuliani: Trump Should Not Testify Before A Mueller Grand Jury

US President Donald Trump's former personal attorney could have made payments to women other than adult film star Stormy Daniels if "necessary", his new lawyer Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday.

President Trump did not know about a $130,000 payoff to an adult film actress who claimed she'd had a sexual affair with him even as he paid tens of thousands of dollars to the NY attorney who made the payments, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.

In the sketch, Mr Trump, played by Alec Baldwin, asked his lawyer, Michael Cohen, played by Ben Stiller, to call Ms Daniels and try to fix their ongoing legal battle "once and for all".

In Fox News interviews Wednesday night and again Thursday morning, Trump's new outside attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, said Trump had reimbursed Cohen via a large monthly stipend beginning after the election.

Both Giuliani and Trump have insisted the payment to Daniels was not a campaign expense. Giuliani told ABC News he is not prepared to let Trump sit down with Mueller's team of prosecutors "after the way they've acted" and argued it would "walk (Trump) into a prosecution for perjury" or a "trap". "It's a nuisance payment".

On Sunday Giuliani told ABC's This Week he was "not really involved in the Daniels thing" and added, when confronted with inconsistencies between his statements and the president's: "Right now I'm at the point where I'm learning". "They don't have a case on obstruction, which is why they're asking all these cockamamie questions about what do you feel, what do you think", Giuliani said.

Trump has denied the allegation of a sexual encounter with Daniels and told reporters last month on Air Force One he wasn't aware of Cohen's payment to her.

The cameo gave her the opportunity to tell Trump in a roundabout way what it would take to settle her dispute, which is a question many have asked while watching the suit unfold (answer: "a resignation), as well as to provide timely puns like, "I know you don't believe in climate change, but a storm's a-comin' baby". I found this out many, many longtime afterwards long after I got into the White House", Conway said.

"Michael's lawyers all know that that obviously is not on the table", Giuliani said.

Conway added that she did not know of the Daniels payment or any other payments when she worked on Trump's winning 2016 campaign.

"He started yesterday", Trump incorrectly said of Giuliani, who was hired on April 19.

"That's not a decision to be made now, there's no reason to be made now".

The money to Daniels was "to protect him, to protect his family", Giuliani said. She said she has had to hire bodyguards, describing the situation as "overwhelming and intimidating and downright scary a lot of the times". "I think it is obvious to the American people that this is a cover-up, that they are making it up as they go along".

He then boasted: "Everybody's reacting to us now, and I feel good about that because that's what I came in to do".
