Mourinho: I expect Pogba to stay

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed to the press the state of Lukaku's injury.

And Mourinho admitted he can not accept such a poor return from those fixtures, especially when his players have been able to rise to the occasion and win against their rivals at the top end of the table. Mourinho did not identify them, but he has publicly questioned the likes of Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw in the past.

The club had a great many years from him playing football. That appeared to be a veiled reference to City buying Ederson Moraes and Aymeric Laporte on the back of signing Claudio Bravo and John Stones.

Asked whether United needed more quality and a change of mindset, Mourinho was affirmative in his response.

The Frenchman's agent has already sounded out Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester City and PSG, report the Daily Record. A lot of points.

"I think we need both things that you mentioned", said the 55-year-old, quoted by the Independent.

Mourinho hoped the player the Red Devils lost on a free transfer would star back in England but he has failed to find any kind of consistency despite being in the team most weeks.

An Etihad source said: "Leroy loves it here and wants to stay but it looks like it's all going to have to wait for now". Toure, 34, has won three Premier League titles and four domestic cups during his eight seasons at City.

"I trust some [players] more than others that can bridge that gap". That's normal. I understand the players.

"If you go to the Premier League managers, I don't say every one, but I say the majority of them will tell you the same". And of course, some of the players I am totally convinced are going to make it.

"He has qualities that we believe can make him a good coach". Unless there's an ideal squad, where you purchase one goalkeeper you do not like, you get another one; you purchase a central defender you do not like, you get another one.

Mourinho further lauded the values of the 36-year-old, believing it is important to keep the former England global at the club.

"I think he's going to be here next season".

While there are definitely players within the United squad who would benefit from moves, it's tough to put Pogba in that bracket.

Carrick also won the Champions League's sister competition, the Europa League last season, as United brushed past Ajax 2-0, while he also has a Club World Cup and six Community Shields in his trophy cabinet.
