Area voters to decide school budgets, board seats

The Mamaroneck school district is seeking approval for a $138.9 million budget, which is up 2.84 percent over the current spending package.

School districts across state will hold annual budget votes and school board elections on Tuesday. The proposed budget includes a total increase of 1.72 percent and a proposed tax levy increase of 2.76 percent, which is below the district's tax cap limit of 2.78 percent. Polls are open into the evening in all districts from Montauk to Bridgehampton.

The board will also vote Monday whether to accept a $280,000 bid from Horizon Construction Group Inc. of Sandy Lake to fix the high school retaining wall.

A full 100 percent of districts' spending plans in Nassau and Suffolk counties - 124 budgets in all - passed in the initial round of balloting at this time previous year, meaning that no revotes were needed in June.

Voting will be from 2 to 8 p.m.at the Wainscott School.
