1 person killed in explosion at California medical facility

A US official says a deadly explosion at a Southern California office building is being investigated as an intentional act and investigators believe the blast may have come from a package.

All nearby buildings including a preschool were evacuated by officials in the wake of the explosion.

Police investigators and FBI agents are studying the causes of the explosion, and they assure that there is no lingering threat to the community.

"The corner of that building, the whole bottom floor is pretty much blown out", fire Capt.

Dong Shin said he had seen "fire, smoke, insulation popping out of the walls, a lot of scared people running around, a lot of commotion". She and the three injured were likely in close proximity to the explosion, Sawyer said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesman Mike Gifford said there is no initial indication of terrorism.

Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennesy said they received a call around 1:09 p.m.

Authorities said they are not actively seeking a suspect. The other woman was burned and her head was bleeding.

Dave Sawyer says authorities haven't determined whether the explosion was accidental or intentional.
