Agents, many dressed in riot gear, moved to clear the encampment at around 6am on Thursday, and tents and other items were seen in the middle of the street, a news report said. "ICE has lost trust".

In an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo, the New York Democrat said she believes it is time to "reimagine" the controversial agency with a "very different mission". The calls have grown particularly loud due to ICE's separation of parents and children who crossed the border illegally due to the Trump administration's new "zero-tolerance" policy on illegal border crossings.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Tom Homan is serving his last day Friday as the controversial face of the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration retires.

And on Tuesday the high profile election of insurgent socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez added fuel to the movement, thanks to her outspoken support for the policy.

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says the new nominee has the leadership needed to accomplish the crucial national security missions facing the country today. The back of her jacket said, "I really don't care, do U?" and it became a rallying cry for protesters Saturday.

Presumably, those lamentable practices include incidents like one in Kansas City, Missouri, where an ICE agent assaulted an immigration lawyer who was reuniting a child kidnapped by the Trump administration with her mother.

The president took to Twitter amid the protests, first to show his support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement as some Democrats called for major changes to the agency.

Now, according to SF Gate , Ettel is receiving death threats. "It was stupid", she said. "On my property", the mother said. Ettel said she had no problem with the little girl; the issue was with the girl's mother, and "just about being quiet".

On Capitol Hill, Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin is now working with fellow Democratic Reps. "If it's a binary choice and people think it's the end of immigration enforcement, that's not a good place for us to be".

"It's much more aggressive in who it's going after throughout the country", said the Democrat whose district includes Iowa and Lafayette counties.

This aide said the party should focus on "the cruelty of the actions around family separations and some of the ridiculous tactics used by ICE to bully state and local governments" to comply with federal immigration detainers.

Officers moved in on the encampment of Occupy ICE PDX demonstrators at about 5:30 a.m. PT, the U.S. attorney's office in OR said.

Trump has backed away from family separations amid bipartisan and worldwide uproar.

"I am pleased that ICE will continue to be led by an experienced and well-respected career law enforcement officer who will be a strong advocate for the agency's workforce".
