Firefighters are battling a wildfire in the area.

The so-called County Fire erupted Sunday and at times has grown by 1,000 acres an hour.

Thousands of firefighters from all over the region and the state fought the two blazes, which were driven by "red flag" conditions including high temperatures, strong winds and low humidity, Anthony said.

San Francisco residents shared photos on social media showing the city choked by ash and smoke as a yellow haze washed over the city, resembling a sepia tone Instagram filter. They also say two structure task forces from central OR helped tremendously to protect homes while wildland crews focused on fighting the fire.

"It's a fire year now", Anthony said.

The 78,941-acre Spring Creek fire, the fourth-largest Colorado wildfire, is burning in Huerfano and Costilla counties.

Evacuations were ordered between County Road 63 to County Road 76, west of Highway 16, plus the Murphy Ranch area.

A second wildfire is also burning to the northwest of the County Fire.

A court document says 52-year-old Jesper Joergensen initially said he had started a fire to burn trash but then said he had been grilling in a permanent fire pit the day before the blaze began.

The fire was expected to remain active and grow in intensity with a warm and dry forecast on Sunday.

Air district officials said Monday that the fires are a reminder for Bay Area residents to be safe this week, given that this winter brought less rain than normal and fire risk is growing.

"We're fortunate that the current weather conditions are protecting us from the smoke", said Lisa Fasano, a spokeswoman for the agency.

CBS4)- Hundreds of people living in Central Colorado were unable to dial 911 on Tuesday due to a massive Verizon and Charter landline phone outage caused by the Spring Fire.

Additional crews will be helping out on Tuesday to make sure the fire stays contained. Cal Fire says about 30 structures are threatened, some of them may be homes.
