Before her fourth round match at the French Open, she withdrew, but she continued her winning ways at Wimbledon with a win over Kristina Mladenovic 7-5, 7-6.

And given Raonic was the last man to beat Federer at Wimbledon, that might provide hope to those players.

Serena will play world number 120 Rodina if she advances to the fourth round.

Serena Williams and seventh-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova both won on Friday to avoid this year's surprising cull of favourites.

"The rain coming helped me a lot", the 28-year-old, who had not won a match at Wimbledon in his two previous visits before this year, told BBC Sport.

He'll be eager to reach the quarter-finals for the first time, where he could come up against defending champion Roger Federer.

As Keys reflected on the defeat she said it showed just how mentally strong Williams was in coping with the added pressure of being favorite to win virtually every match she plays.

Her exit, coupled with the loss earlier Friday by No. 10 Madison Keys, means eight of the top 10 seeded women are gone before the fourth round at the All England Club - a first in the Open Era.

Keys, who was the US Open runner-up previous year, crashed out 7-5 5-7 6-4 to the Russian on a baking hot Court Three.

The American 10th seed was 5-2 ahead in the first set but collapsed to lose it and go 4-0 down in the second.

Dominic Inglot and Franko Skugor came through to win 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 6-2 in five sets against Fernando Gonzalez and Marcelo Demoliner. She then broke back to level the third set at 4-4, but Rodina immediately earned another break and served out the victory.

The top seed, who is yet to drop a set at this year's championships, did not relinquish a single break point during the 97-minute domination.

Last year, Venus made two Grand Slam finals and one semi-final, but this term she has failed to get past the third round in any of the three majors.
