Russian media suggest Putin-Trump summit a step forward

With a wink and a slouch, respectively, President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin opened their summit on Monday as the American president declared that "the world wants to see us get along".

Just days after a special prosecutor indicted 12 Russian agents for stealing documents from the Democratic Party to help Trump win the 2016 Presidential Election, Trump went into his talks with Putin without a word of criticism for Moscow.

We have breaking news this morning out of Helsinki, where President Donald Trump has now wrapped up his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"On the world stage in front of the entire globe the president of the United States essentially capitulated and seems intimidated by Vladimir Putin", Clapper told CNN.

Trump participated in an expanded bilateral meeting with Russian Federation. He made the untenable assertion that "I have confidence in both parties" - his intelligence officials, who say Moscow interfered, and Putin, who says it didn't. I didn't know the president.

At a press briefing at which both spoke, Trump said the two had "deeply productive dialogue".

As it was reported earlier, Donald Trump described his one-on-one meeting with the Russian President Putin as a "good start".

The new chief will face sterner tests against Atletico Madrid and PSG in a pre-season tournament in Singapore next week. He knows he's at a big club, and has a lot of pressure, but I think he has a big character and spirit.

Putin will likely not be shooting for official recognition of Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea or the easing of crippling U.S. sanctions, aware that the U.S. Congress would never allow such action.

Bolton's comments followed related reports from last week, namely an article published last Thursday in The New York Times asserting that Israel had "won an important commitment" from Putin that saw Russian Federation use its influence in Syria to move Iranian forces fighting alongside the Syrian Arab Army "tens of kilometers" away from the border of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Mr Putin appeared to smirk as Mr Trump ignored shouted questions about whether he would warn the Russian leader against meddling in the 2018 midterm elections. We don't actually have any tape of that press conference, but we do have some idea of what they have said.

Iraq War veteran Chris Sheppard, a former combat engineer with the U.S. Marine Corps who left the military after 13 years in 2005 and is now a tax attorney, sat glued to his cellphone screen in his downtown Seattle office on Monday as the American president suggested he believed Putin. Trump received a football of the FIFA World Cup in the news conference. You have President Trump on Twitter, in public and now today in Helsinki speaking about all the possibilities that could attend a better U.S. -Russia relationship, largely blaming the past deterioration in ties on entities other than Russian Federation, blaming the United States and so forth. Putin said that issue came up during their private meetings, but Trump did not discuss it during the press conference.

He said the agreement would allow US officials to request that Russian authorities interrogate the 12, adding that USA officials could request to be present in such interrogations.

Russia's foreign ministry tweeted "we agree" in reaction to Mr Trump's morning tweet criticising USA "foolishness and stupidity" for the state of relations between the two countries.

The two presidents have shared personal bonhomie in the past, but beyond the alleged hacking of the United States election, their countries are deeply divided on a host of other issues including Syria and Ukraine.
