In the interview, Seagal also praised Putin as "a great world leader" and a "brilliant tactician".

Like Putin, Seagal is an expert in Judo, as well as Akido and Karate.

Steven Seagal is trading his martial arts training for diplomatic skills in his new role as the Russian Foreign Ministry's special representative to improve United States and Russian relations.

The once-prolific actor has been recruited to deepen ties with the U.S.in the humanitarian field, assisting "cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges", according to Russia's foreign ministry. "It's a case of people's diplomacy intersecting with traditional diplomacy", the ministry said.

"I've always had a very strong desire to do all I can to help improve Russian-American relations", RT quoted Seagal. Seagal has been accused by many women over the years, including Jenny McCarthy, Portia de Rossi, and Rachel Grant, to name a few.

President Donald Trump has been criticized for his reluctance to speak out against Russian Federation or President Vladimir Putin, and the addition to Steven Seagal into the mix isn't going to help matters.

The former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver boasts 14 seasons, six pro bowls, 15,292 receiving yards and 156 touchdowns. Terrell Owens had almost everyone in McKenzie Arena standing by the end of his Hall of Fame speech.

The foreign ministry said the unpaid role will be similar to the United Nations' goodwill ambassador positions.

Seagal's fame peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s with films such as Under Siege and Above the Law, but he remains hugely popular in eastern Europe and was granted both Russian and Serbian citizenships in 2016. "I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially".

Seagal's new role was noted by Kremlin-backed TV station RT, who noted Seagal as welcoming the appointment.

According to Seagal's own website, the 66-year-old has been a regular visitor to Russian Federation for over a decade.

He has previously hung out with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a fellow martial arts fan.
