Trump appears to change his story about meeting

The Republican president had previously said the meeting was about the adoption of Russian children by Americans.

While originally Trump, a Republican, said the meeting was about adoptions, on Sunday he said on Twitter that it was about getting information on Clinton.

President Donald Trump could end up testifying under oath in the Russian Federation probe, and that, over the course of the investigation being conducted by the special counsel Robert Mueller, has unsettled Trump's defense lawyers. The only way it might become otherwise is if the president's claim that he didn't know about the meeting in advance turns out to be a lie.

Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime attorney and former fixer, is said to be prepared to testify that the President knew about the Trump Tower meeting ahead of time sources with knowledge of the matter told CNN.

As he has in the past, Trump insisted in a tweet that he did not know at the time about the meeting between his son Donald Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya, a lawyer with links to the Kremlin. More than a year ago, he tweeted: "Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don jr attended in order to get info on an opponent". USA intelligence made that assessment public in an October 7 statement.

President Trump is also correct when he suggests that most political campaigns would have been as interested as his was in obtaining negative information about its opponent from a Russian willing to provide it. Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied his government interfered.

Trump earlier in the day tweeted that the Trump Tower meeting between his son, Donald Trump Jr.

He initially denied he met with any Russians on behalf of the campaign and now he admits the meeting was to get damaging information about Clinton.

"I think there's plenty of evidence of collusion or conspiracy in plain sight".

It isn't news that the objective of the meeting with the Russian lawyer was to get negative information about Clinton.

Trump has repeatedly denied collusion with Russian Federation or any other wrongdoing.

'The question is what law, statute or rule or regulation's been violated? Whether it's the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016, or private messages back and forth with Wikileaks, Don Jr.'s name continues to pop up in regards to the current Mueller probe. Her unannounced presence raised some eyebrows as Hicks has been interviewed by Mueller and was part of the team of staffers that helped draft the original statement on the Trump Tower meeting.

This is one of several reasons Trump has upped his public attacks on Mueller, because he doesn't want him touching his family, the person adds. Trump has seethed against what he feels are trumped-up charges against his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, whose trial began last week and provided a visible reminder of Mueller's work. And at a trio of rallies, he escalated his already vitriolic rhetoric toward the media, savaging the press for unflattering coverage and, he feels, bias. He then acknowledged that the infamous June 2016 meeting between Trump Jr.

Asked on Sunday why he had denied the president's involvement, one of Trump's lawyers Jay Sekulow told ABC that "I had bad information at that point".
