Securing the signature of the Sampdoria midfielder will reportedly cost Arsenal £22M, taking the total cost of the two players close to the £30M marker.

The 22-year-old was given an early release for his nation's summer exploits following their defeat to France at the quarter-final stage and made securing his long-term future at club level.

Arsenal are closing in on the double signing of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira and France Under-20 worldwide Matteo Guendouzi, Press Association Sport understands.

It is possible that Arsenal also trim their squad with David Ospina, Joel Campbell, Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck all tipped to leave.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Torreira's father said: "It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal".
