Meteor shower lights up skies over Bosnia

Peak meteor shower this year could be observed in the night from 12 to 13 August.

Scientists are saying the Perseid meteor showers the next few nights promise to be rather stellar. Some of them intersect with the earth due to their colliding trajectories. These pieces are called meteoroids. This is because all of the meteors are approaching Earth from the same point, even though perspective may make them appear more skewed as they get closer. This is what we commonly are able to perceive as a shooting star. But it is not a star.

But Newman pushed back against her critics by arguing that she can substantiate her claims in the book. While writing the book, "three separate sources" had "described the same exact statements ", she said.

Whereas Earth and the other planets in its solar system follow mostly-linear orbits around the sun, comets' orbits are often slanted.

"The average particle size is that of large sand grains, but some small pea-gravel-size meteors can cause bright fireballs that light up the sky and ground". The meteoroids become attractive meteors or shooting stars when they enter the earth's atmosphere and burn up due to the friction caused. The next time will be 2126. It is said the Perseid shower commemorates the time when Zeus visited Danae, the mother of Perseus, in a shower of gold. The main factors in when a meteor shower will occur are comets, icy space bodies that orbit the sun. It contains ice and gas. "It is a really cool thing to think about as you watch these meteors falling from the sky", says Quanzhi Ye, a planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology, US. You still might catch a few between evening and midnight. Light pollution at the site is minimal, affording good views of the night sky. A meteor shower is best seen far away from urban areas.
