United also drew Valencia and Swiss side Young Boys in the group stage and Mourinho explained it will be a hard group for his side to progress from. In the Group E, Bayern Munich will be challenged by Benfica, Ajax and AEK Athens.

Tottenham have been drawn in a tough group to face Barcelona, while last season's runners-up Liverpool face Paris St-Germain and Napoli.

PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan, beaten by Spurs in the 2013 Europa League last 16, are the other opponents in Group B.

"Inter are back in the Champions League and they'll be desperate to do well".

Speaking after United 2-0 win at Burnley, Mourinho said: "Juventus is one of the teams in Europe that invested to win the Champions League because they don't need to invest to win the Scudetto".

Reacting to the draw, Mourinho told the club's official website: "Difficult for us, hard for them [the other teams]".

Shakhtar coach Paulo Fonseca said: "I think we should consider Manchester City the favourites for our group".
