Vettel: Hamilton did not leave me any space

Lewis Hamilton has congratulated Kimi Raikkonen on his pole position at the Italian Grand Prix, saying he simply could not match the pace of the Ferrari driver at Monza.

The collision resulted in Vettel spinning his Ferrari and damaging the front wing while Hamilton's vehicle survived undamaged and he went on to win the race and increase his championship lead to 30 points.

Another race-defining moment for Hamilton came on Lap 1, when he clashed with his title rival Sebastian Vettel going into Monza's second chicane.

Ferrari had swept the front row at Monza, a week after Vettel's dominant Spa victory.

The result leaves Vettel trailing Hamilton by 30 points in the drivers' championship with seven races remaining.

"At the beginning I tried to overtake Kimi in Turn 1 and 4, but I couldn't".

"I want to give it up to Ferrari who put up a great challenge and gave us a great fight", said Hamilton. I had no other chance than to run into him and make contact. "I actually accept it", Hamilton, booed on the podium by the crowd flooding the main straight with their flares and flags, said.

Trump administration to cut $300 million from UN Palestinian refugee agency
The State Department announced Friday that the USA "will no longer commit further funding to this irredeemably flawed operation". In Gaza, the Islamist group Hamas also condemned the United States move as a "grave escalation against the Palestinian people".

Red Bull's Max Verstappen was handed a five-second penalty for refusing to give Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas room and pushing him off track.

"I tried to obviously get out from there but I couldn't".

"I thought it should be just the nose, I didn't see all the bits on the side, but when I got going again it was quite frightful to drive".

"We are very fortunate to have capitalised on the different situations". "It is easy in the arena that we're in, it is very, very easy to allow it to get to you, to allow it to have an impact on your life and think about it".

A disappointed Raikkonen said: "I was quick enough, but unfortunately our rear tyres went and it was a losing battle from that point".

Hamilton's overtaking move on Vettel was investigated by the stewards but they took no action, deeming it a racing incident. The lead has changed hands five times and their cars have generally been evenly matched but Ferrari have enjoyed a speed advantage since the British Grand Prix and an engine upgrade at the Belgium GP has given them more power than their rivals. "So I don't take anything from it and I know how it is to be in that emotion, and I'm sure he didn't mean too much by it". Yesterday I was trying to figure out how aggressive you can be because my race is not really with Kimi, it's with Sebastian. "Then I got used to it and drove around it but when I got out of the vehicle I was surprised myself". We know we have a very strong auto, which was clearly demonstrated by the fact we monopolised the front row of the grid.
