Tropical Storm Gordon has made landfall near the Alabama/Mississippi border and is weakening as it moves North. It is moving northwest at 15 miles per hour. Current spaghetti forecast models indicate that storm will spin off to sea.

Gordon was expected to produce total rain accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres over the western Florida Panhandle, southwest Alabama, southern and central MS, northeastern Louisiana and southern Arkansas, the agency said.

Heavy rain is already falling over western Florida and is expected to spread west along the coast to New Orleans. But authorities issued a voluntary evacuation order for areas outside the citys levee protection system, including the Venetian Isles, Lake Saint Catherine and Irish Bayou areas.

The National Hurricane Center says the core of Tropical Storm Gordon was still about 75 miles southeast of Biloxi, Mississippi as of 7 p.m. CDT Tuesday.

Further offshore, another system, Florence, has rapidly coalesced into a category 2 hurricane and appears to barreling toward the tropical eastern Atlantic coastline.

Gordon will continue to move to the northwest and weaken across Central Mississippi today.

Tornadoes are possible on Tuesday afternoon and evening, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency warned, as well as flash flooding and storm surges in the south of the state.

Hurricane warnings are now in effect until further notice for coastal MS and Alabama and tropical storm warnings remain in effect for the rest of our viewing area. except for Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. You know you're going to flood before anyone else does.

And, forecasters are monitoring Invest 92L, a tropical wave that has moved off the west coast of Africa.

"The weather will be pretty seasonable for this time for this time of year", McGraw said. Hurricane Florence was some 3,900 kilometres away from the USA, and another potential storm was likely to form not far off the coast of Africa and head east.
