Hugo Lloris, who won the World Cup with France, is out injured and Tottenham was reliant on Michel Vorm in goal against Liverpool.

Liverpool are now top of the Premier League table, having won all five of their opening games of the new season - the first time the club have done so since 1990.

The Reds' dominance in the match finally paid off as Georginio Wijnaldum put his side ahead in the 39th minute after Tottenham failed to clear their lines from a corner kick played by James Milner.

The Reds are sitting in second place in the Premier League table but level on points with leaders Chelsea FC following a fifth successive Premier League win. Liverpool were not at their best either, but are finding ways to win games, which is a sign of a team that is destined for silverware. This just goes to show stats don't show the full story, and sometimes it takes a good old fashioned pair of eyes to fill in the gaps.

"We're playing in the Premier League and Champions League, the two toughest competitions in world football", Klopp said.

"We should have finished the game off earlier but didn't".

"It was a very good performance, maybe our best against Tottenham in all the years since I'm here, but I imagine only five per cent less and probably we would have lost". We won at Tottenham and that's the only thing I was interested in.

With right back Kieran Trippier too far forward, Liverpool were able to play a ball in behind to Mane, who crossed for Roberto Firmino to score. It could all have been different though as a foul by Sadio Mane on the returning Son Heung-min inside the box during added time. We need to improve a lot. I don't know exactly what it means but to focus on one competition can only be if maybe you are already out of the competition almost.

"The first half was even and then we conceded again from a set-piece".

As for Tottenham, despite an improved second-half display, they look well short of a side missing the spark which has powered their impressive form in recent seasons.

The errors were caused largely by the high volume of Liverpool players in and around the keeper, giving him little room for manoeuvre, and Wijnaldum has explained that was something the Reds did on goal.
