Witnesses Describe Deadly Cape Cod Shark Attack Right Out Of Movie ‘Jaws’

A swimmer at a Cape Cod beach died Saturday in what experts believe is the first fatal shark attack in MA in more than 80 years.

The fatal attack happened at around midday on Saturday, Setember 15th at Newcomb Hollow Beaching in Wellfleet.

Medici was attacked around noon as he and a friend were boogie boarding.

His friend dragged him ashore before beachgoers attempted life-saving measures including CPR and applying tourniquets.

While he did not have details about Saturday's attack, Naylor said it was likely a white shark that attacked the man in a case of "mistaken identity" in the more shallow waters where boogie boarders seek waves.

A 61-year-old man from NY was seriously injured last month, just five miles away, after punching a shark in the gills off Long Nook Beach near the town of Truro.

Barnstable county commissioner Ron Beaty said he had warned something like this could happen. The last one occurred in 1936.

It was not immediately clear what type of shark attacked the man Saturday or what his injuries entailed.

He was the state's first shark attack fatality in more than 80 years and the second attack victim this summer on Cape Cod.
