Caron Butler Says Lakers Should Go After Jimmy Butler

When the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Jimmy Butler previous year before the season began many people speculated about how good the team could be. "Therefore a team acquiring Butler would not need to utilize cap space in the 2019-20 season for such a contract".

With Butler requesting a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, he is reportedly "most determined" to join the Los Angeles Clippers, but also included the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks on his list of preferred destinations.

Knicks president Steve Mills said NY wouldn't trade its draft picks and wouldn't trade for players it could just sign in free agency. There's value in putting that in Leonard's mind while the Raptors are trying to woo him first-hand over the next year.

The question for the Clippers: Do they trade for Butler now or wait to try signing both stars in free agency next summer?

Miami Heat Have High Interest in Trading for Jimmy Butler
Upon reading Shams Charania tweet about Butler's trade request, the former Wichita State guard commented, "Hallelujah". Jimmy Butler reportedly has asked the Timberwolves to trade him, with his eye on three teams.

Moving Kevin Love is an option too but there's a question of how much the Timberwolves would want Love to be paired with star center Karl Anthony-Towns, as neither have consistently been effective defenders at the National Basketball Association level. Though it may feel surprising, the Wolves are actually considered the betting favorite to retain Butler's services into the season and a report from ESPN indicates that Minnesota's central decision-maker, Tom Thibodeau, has "no interest" in trading his All-Star wing.

Minnesota's training camp is scheduled to begin September 25, but Butler is reportedly optimistic a deal could be done before camp begins.

So, one of the teams Butler would apparently be OK with being traded to is the Knicks. Faried is included mostly to make the salaries match - he could provide some energy and rebounding this season or the Wolves could try to flip his expiring contract before the trade deadline.

Adding a first-round pick may be unnecessary but if needed, would be possible.
