Police in NY say at least five people, including three infants, have been stabbed at an overnight day care centre in Queens.

Five people, including three children, have been left injured.

A Queens daycare centre was on lockdown after the woman knifed and slashed at people. None of the injuries are considered to be life-threatening, despite one of them being seriously hurt.

The victims and their assailant were rushed to a hospital, where one of the girls was listed in serious condition.

It wasn't clear whether the day care center was licensed.

Police say a man who was injured was stabbed in the leg and is the father of a child who was at the day care centre. Police said that a woman was taken into police custody but did not comment further. Her relationship with the children wasn't immediately clear.

The suspect, a woman who is reportedly 52 years old, was found in the basement with self-inflicted knife wounds to her wrists.

Officials have not determined a motive, according to WNBC.
