Josep Borrell says the president suggested building a wall across the Sahara desert, even though only two small enclaves in the region are Spanish territory, the Telegraph.

Trump vowed that he would build a "big attractive wall" across the US-Mexico border, which is 2,000 miles long.

An audio file obtained by CNN noted that the minister impersonated Trump's voice as he said: "You need to build a wall around the Sahara", referring to Trump's statement.

Spain's politicians have agreed a solution needs to be found to deal with the migration crisis, with Africa's population set to double in the next 20 years.

The Sahara desert is roughly 5,000km long.

A foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed Borrell's comments to the Guardian, but declined to comment further.

Trump famously called for a wall to be built along the US-Mexico border to stop illegal immigration to the US during his 2016 presidential campaign, and now apparently feels it can help Europe as well.

"They built this gorgeous wall where the plane went down in Pennsylvania".

"They have a series of walls, I'm saying, it's like ideal".
