'The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year's performer in Atlanta, ' an insider told the celebrity publication.

The 30-year-old singer and actress declined the offer due to her disagreement with the National Football League over how it has treated Colin Kapernick. She does not agree with the NFL's stance, ' one source tells the outlet. It's since sparked a national discussion about patriotism and has drawn the ire of President Trump.

Why? Well, the magazine reports Rihanna turned down the league due to her stance on the national anthem controversy. JAY-Z also reportedly turned down an offer to headline this year's halftime show in Minnesota in support of Kaepernick.

Kaepernick is now pursuing a grievance against the NFL, claiming team owners and executives have colluded to keep him out of the league since he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in early 2017. It's just an investment in their careers - the exposure from doing a halftime show in front of that many people is priceless.

Rihanna is not the first artist to decline the Super Bowl. There are also rumors that Cardi B and Travis Scott will join them during the performance at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 3.
