Turkey suggests Khashoggi's remains taken out of consulate

Ankara's top diplomat, meanwhile, denied sharing any audio from the Saudi consulate with USA officials.

The time-stamped photos showed the man outside the Saudi consulate building in Istanbul on the morning Mr Khashoggi disappeared, Sabah said.

One of the vehicles travelled to the nearby Belgrade Forest while the other travelled to the city of Yalova, across the Sea of Marmara from Istanbul, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the secrecy of the ongoing investigation.

Turkish police on Monday night carried out an eight-hour search at the consulate, taking away soil and DNA samples.

Meanwhile, Turkish-language Sabah daily reported yesterday that a man who previously traveled with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's entourage to the USA entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul just before Khashoggi vanished there. Turkish officials also reportedly believe the Saudis killed Khashoggi, and that he was strangled.

Turkish sources say investigators have found "important samples" at Saudi consulate in the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi.

Shortly after Trump and Pompeo met at the White House, Mnuchin announced that after consulting the president and his top diplomat "I will not be participating in the Future Investment Initiative summit in Saudi Arabia".

The White House referred questions to the State Department which denied Pompeo had heard the recording.

The US vice-president Mike Pence said earlier in Colorado that "the world deserves answers" about what happened to Mr Khashoggi, "and those who are responsible need to be held to account".

"We have certain information and evidence [regarding Khashoggi's disappearance]" and will publicize all materials to the world after the investigation is concluded, Cavusoglu told reporters.

"Given the reports surrounding Mr Khashoggi's disappearance, America's relationship with Saudi Arabia ought to be carefully scrutinised, as should any possible sale of U.S. weapons to Saudi Arabia", he said.

Mohammed has denied his Kingdom knew anything about Khashoggi's disappearance October 2.

A black van that allegedly carried the body of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to the consul's residence was searched for three hours by Turkish forensics expert, local media reported October 19. In a series images from the footage, Mutreb was then seen outside the consul's residence, then later at his hotel near the Saudi mission with a "large suitcase" and finally at the airport in the early evening.

The Saudi consul, Mohammed al-Otaibi, abruptly left Istanbul for Riyadh on Tuesday.

Meanwhile on Friday, British foreign minister Jeremy Hunt said allegations regarding the case of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi would be totally unacceptable if true but any response by Britain would be "considered".
