Native American groups say they're exhausted of being a "political football" in the back and forth over Warren's heritage claims.

She listed herself in professional directories as a Native American and was touted as Harvard Law School's first "woman of color" professor.

A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Elizabeth Warren's claim to Cherokee ancestry. Tribes, which are sovereign nations, set their own standards of blood quantum required to get a Certificate Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) card.

When Warren released her latest evidence Monday indicating that she likely had a Native American ancestry going back six to 10 generations - meaning several hundred years go - she believed that official documentation along with a slick video would somehow place her in the same box as a full-blooded Cherokee.

Critics of Ms. Warren say she used claims of American Indian ancestry to better her chances of gaining employment at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania.

"It's a sore topic to begin with", said Branham, a Democratic candidate for a state House seat in Oklahoma City. He's using the name Pocahontas as a racial slur. "It certainly was offensive to me".

"At Disneyland today with Senator Elizabeth Warren", Chaffetz captioned a picture of him standing next to a statue of a Native American. "I got this analysis back, and I made it public".

But Warren and Graham are discussing their claims of Native American heritage on Trump's terms rather than those of Native Americans.

Trump, who refers to Warren as "Pocahontas", seized on the conclusion in a series of tweets Tuesday.

Warren acknowledged identifying herself as a minority in the directory for almost a decade. A Harvard Law spokesman also cited that factoid when the school came under fire for lacking diversity. She took a bogus DNA test and it showed that she may be 1/1024, far less than the average American.

Scholes: I never saw 'selfish' Sanchez as a Manchester United player
Mourinho's job at United appeared to be hanging in the balance when his team were 2-0 down at home to Newcastle a fortnight ago. Manchester United players are fuming over the constant attacks from club legends.

"Actually, when the president found out that I was Indian American, he asked me if I was from the same tribe as Elizabeth Warren", Haley told the NY fundraiser.

Throughout my childhood, I witnessed many incidences of racism - whether they were directed at me, my sister, or my father. "But my family history is my family history". In fact, based on Bustamante's anlysis, Warren is between 1/64 and 1/1,024 Native American.

According to 2015 statistics from the Kaiser Family Foundation, "The rate of drug-related deaths among American Indian and Alaska Native people has nearly quadrupled since 1999, according to the Indian Health Service".

He also attacked Warren by saying she benefited professionally from identifying as Native American.

Native American tribes don't generally consider DNA tests relevant to establishing tribal heritage.

The tribes reject the idea that, having taken much of their land, others can now claim their ethnic heritage with any DNA connection.

Yet there's a reason why the Democratic senator's declaration was met with harsh criticism, including from the Cherokee Nation's secretary of state., who said Warren was "undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage". She is more impactful and useful if she acknowledges the privilege that comes from being White and advocates to dismantle the systems that sustain the oppression of some over others.

The desire to "belong" to something that isn't part of your heritage is so strong in some politicians who apparently can't live with the fact that they were merely born white.

Said Branham: "It's not a costume".

What qualifies you for Native status is tribal membership. "It's really actively being a part of that culture".
