Sometime later, the unidentified woman who'd been taking care of the child, walked up to a house she says she believed belonged to the boy's father, knocked on the door, rang the bell and ultimately left the toddler standing alone as she drove away.

This video shows the child being lifted into the air by his arm for several metres by the woman as she hurries up to the front door.

Authorities say the father of the child was approached by a media partner Thursday morning as he was leaving his home and was asked about the child in the video.

Spencer said investigators will soon be interviewing the woman who dropped the child off to determine why she ran from the house and failed to confirm an adult was home.

In the video, the woman, who has still not been found, runs up to the door with the boy in her arm. The incident lasted 23 seconds. The boy's mother was in the hospital, the lieutenant said, which is why she did not know the friend left her son at the wrong home.

The boy's father confirmed the child in the video is named Prince Simmons, ABC7 reported.

Deputies said the boy appears to be uninjured and in good health.

At this point the identity of the suspect and the child are unknown. "Child Protective Services responded to the scene and took custody of the child and are assisting in identifying the child's family", said the sheriff's department in a statement.

When the child did not show up, the father assumed the mother's plans had changed and left his home. CPS is trying to find the child's family members so that he can be reunited with them. Spring, Texas is about 20 miles from Houston. Child Protective Services took custody of the child and brought him to a foster family.

The woman could potentially be charged with child abandonment, which is a felony of the third degree in Texas.
