Egypt says actions "decisive and brave" by Saudi over missing journalist case

"Preliminary investigations. revealed that the discussions that took place between him and the persons who met the Saudi consulate in Istanbul led to a brawl and a fist fight with the citizen, Jamal Khashoggi, which led to his death, may his soul rest in peace", Saudi Attorney General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb said in the statement.

The governments of France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada on Sunday rejected Saudi Arabia's latest explanation for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and said they would wait for the full report from Turkish authorities before deciding how they would deal with Riyadh, The Guardian reported.

"The market started to price in a fundamentally different relationship between Saudi Arabia and the USA", said Jaap Meijer, head of equity research, at Arqaam Capital. "We don't know where the body is", Jubeir said.

Khashoggi, a Saudi-born columnist and US resident and wrote for The Washington Post, was last seen entering the consulate on October 2.

A member of the team then dressed in Khashoggi's clothes and walked out of the building to make it appear as if he had left the consulate, the official said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the explanation of Khashoggi's death "inadequate" while French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said many questions "remain unanswered".

Asked by a reporter whether he thought Saudi Arabia's explanation for Mr Khashoggi's death was credible, Mr Trump said "I do".

'And so, we've got to figure out a way to have a nuanced response to this situation. The kingdom also said that 18 suspects were in custody and that intelligence officials had been fired.

The Trump administration has strongly denied a claim that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was played an audio recording and provided a transcript of Khashoggi's killing.

And it is now backing the creation of a new unified Orthodox Church based in Kiev. The various Orthodox churches are already divided on the issue.

Trump said he considers the Saudi statement credible, though "it's early".

Saudi Arabia is the UK's key ally in the region and also a significant trading partner.

Turkish officials believe Khashoggi - a critic of the Saudi government - was murdered and his body dismembered.

His Treasury Secretary, Mnuchin, said he would not attend a Saudi investment conference on Tuesday, although he would still visit Riyadh as planned for talks with his counterpart there on joint efforts to counter terrorist financing.

Speaking after a campaign rally in Nevada, Mr Trump said he will be talking to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman soon.

The decision to overhaul the intelligence apparatus and sack members of Crown Prince Mohammed's inner circle is created to "distance the crown prince from the murder", said analysis firm Eurasia Group.

People close to Khashoggi and the government said Qahtani had tried to lure the journalist back to Saudi Arabia after he moved to Washington a year ago fearing reprisals for his views.

Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat on the Armed Services committee, said in a statement.
