Everyone loved him. He is a fantastic boy, fantastic player.

Wayne Rooney is being recalled to the England squad for a one-off farewell performance, two years after his last appearance for the national side.

Rooney moved to America earlier this year to play MLS football with DC United.

But he was happy to look on his time at Old Trafford and even revealed he could team up with Rooney again one day.

Unfortunately, the fairytale ended this week as Rooney missed a penalty in a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to the Columbus Crew.

The Three Lions' all-time top goal scorer will make his 120th appearance against the U.S. in a friendly at Wembley.

Trump openly threatened to massacre the caravan of workers and peasants escaping war and poverty in Central America. TRUMP: "At this very moment, large well-organized caravans of migrants are marching towards our southern border".

The match at Wembley will be Rooney's 120th in an England shirt and he has a record of 53 goals for his country. "I would like to thank (manager) Gareth Southgate and the FA for inviting me back and helping to support my foundation in the process".

England's all-time top scorer called time on his global career in August 2017 after winning 119 caps and scoring 53 goals for his country.

Rooney retired from global duty in August 2017 as England's record goalscorer, while he has won more caps than any other outfield player.

"But England play Croatia in the Nations League three days after this U.S. match, so turning it into a testimonial means Gareth's players will not be preparing properly for the important game which follows it", Shearer added.

Rooney, meanwhile, is impressing in MLS with D.C. United following a frustrating second stint at boyhood club Everton.

Shilton won 125 caps before retiring after the 1990 World Cup, when England reached the semi-finals - just as they did this summer. Rooney will also be training with the squad as they prepare for their Nations League game v Croatia, although he is not set to feature in that one.
