Blame Russia? Trump jokes over Florida & Georgia vote shenanigans

Broward County elections supervisor Brenda Snipes contaminated some 200 valid provisional ballots by combining them with more than a dozen rejected ballots, the Miami Herald reported late Friday.

The Scott campaign filed two lawsuits Thursday night alleging Broward and Palm Beach counties were violating the Florida Constitution and state law by declining to produce public records. Nelson has not yet conceded to Scott, who now leads by less than 0.2 percent with ballots across the state still uncounted.

Many of Florida's 67 counties began their mandatory machine recounts of ballots in three key mid-term races on Sunday.

Nelson responded that "votes are not being found; they're being counted". Florida law says any race within a 0.5 percent margin must go to a recount, and as of 9 a.m. Friday, Nelson trailed Scott by 0.18 percent.

Snipes agreed to present the ballots for inspection to the board after Republican attorneys objected to Snipes' initial plan to handle the ballots administratively.

"Because of her extensive and successful leadership and administrative skills, Dr. Snipes was asked by Governor Jeb Bush to serve out the term of Supervisor of Elections in Broward County", her state website said.

"Lock her up" and "Stop the steal" were among chants heard at the demonstration.

Elias also slammed Scott for enlisting the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in the race.

The official certification of the elections is to take place November 20, when the state's elections canvassing commission meets. These are ballots where voters filled in too many blanks, or not enough names, or caused some other flaw, such as stray marks.

"If you look at Broward County, they have had a terrible history", Trump told reporters outside the White House.

Trump took note of the involvement of Nelson's lawyer, Marc Elias, a Washington-based Democrat who represented Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential race and has handled recounts before, including one that sent comedian Al Franken to the Senate from Minnesota in 2008. All of a sudden they are finding votes out of nowhere.

President Trump on Friday blamed Florida's potential recount in its gubernatorial and Senate races on a "woman" with a "horrible history " - as he slammed the Sunshine State's Election Day debacle as a "disgrace". In Broward, some 26,060 fewer people casts votes for the Senate race compared to the governor's race - a 3.7 percent difference. Since contests for higher elected offices tend to draw the most attention and interest, voters are less likely to skip them when voting. They are here to change the results of election; & Broward is where they plan to do it, the senator said. The governor's race was at the top center of the ballot, immediately beneath the voting instructions. Many more counties continue to count provisional ballots.

In Georgia's gubernatorial election, Republican Brian Kemp declared victory on Wednesday with a narrow lead. Abrams had 48.7 percent, with other candidates receiving 0.9 percent, NBC News reported. Bill Nelson is awaiting results against Republican challenger Gov. Rick Scott, Trump narrowly won the state by less than 1.5 percentage points.

In the race for governor, DeSantis was leading by 0.41 percentage points. Every vote that was legally and verifiably cast prior to the polls closing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday should, of course, be counted.

Nelson also filed a federal lawsuit Friday, seeking to postpone the Saturday deadline to submit unofficial election results.
