Former President George H.W. Bush's recently maligned service dog, Sully, was among the mourners who filed into the U.S. Capitol to remember the late president Tuesday afternoon. The Bushes accompanied the elder Bush's remains to the nation's capital on Monday.

Sully joined Bush in June - just a few months after his wife of 73 years, Barbara, died. She poses with three members of the residence staff in the second photo.

"Resolute through war, President Bush was magnanimous in peace", Mr. Trump said.

As George H.W. Bush lies in state at the U.S. Capitol - giving the public a chance to mourn - a special friend came to pay his respects to the 41st president. The Bushes are staying there.

Joining George W. Bush as eulogists Wednesday: Alan Simpson, the former senator and acerbic wit from Wyoming, Brian Mulroney, the former Canadian prime minister who also gave a eulogy for Reagan; and presidential historian Jon Meacham.

He will lie in state in the Capitol for public visitation through Wednesday.

Wednesday is a national day of mourning for the 41st president.

The Bushes later made a surprise visit to the Capitol Rotunda, shaking hands with visitors and tourists lined up to honor the family patriarch.

Trump, who has not always uttered kind words about the Bush family, offered nothing but praise in the hours after the former president's death was announced. President Trump is expected to attend along with former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
