Former TNA X-Division Champion Petey Williams announced that his final match took place in Detroit, MI last night. He worked a match for the XICW independent promotion there against Chris Sabin.
Williams tweeted after the match a simple thank you that read:
Thank you to everybody who was ever a part of my pro wrestling journey. #CanadianDestroyer— Petey Williams (@iPeteyWilliams) July 6, 2014
Williams is best known for his time with TNA, where he was a two time X-Division Champion. He also teamed with Scott D'Amore, Bobby Roode, Eric Young, Jack Evans, Teddy Hart, and Johnny Devine in various incarnations of Team Canada, and with Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner as his "Maple Leaf Muscle" character was born.
This was not a shock, as Williams had tweeted previously that this would be his last match. He hasn't said what prompted this decision at age 32, but certainly best wishes to him in whatever he pursues next in life.
