Legendary prizefighter Bernard Hopkins gave bizarre quotes to reporters last Wednesday afternoon at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym in Philadelphia.
Hopkins (53-6-3-2, 32 KOs) will defend the IBF light heavyweight belt against German Karo Murat on October 26 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
“I’m an alien,” said Hopkins, 48, a native Philadelphian. “Wait until you see the uniform, come October 26th. I’ll come out in a spaceship. I’m of this world, but I’m out of this world.”
Hopkins last vacated the squared circle on March 9 after universally outscoring Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud to become the oldest pugilist to ever capture a major world title.
Despite being 22 years older than “Thunder,” Hopkins broke his own feat by overwhelming Cloud (24-1, 19 KOs) this past spring.
Comparatively, the 30-year-old Murat (25-1-1, 15 KOs) most recently defeated Sandro Siproshvili in June 2012 by a seventh round TKO.
A former two-weight world titleholder and reformed ex-convict, Hopkins safeguarded his middleweight crown a record 20 straight times from 1995 through 2005.
Although a quasi-geriatric, “The Executioner” remains a defensive virtuoso with an insatiable appetite for winning.
Continuing to defy Father Time like “an alien,” Bernard Hopkins will easily trump Karo Murat on the cards roughly 4 days from tonight.
