ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe made some rather inflammatory remarks on Twitter regarding the divisive issue of gay marriage rights. Delaware State Senate passed a bill that will permit gay couples to marry.
Briscoe took to Twitter and in two subseqent posts said the following:
"The Delaware Senate passed a bill yesterday that allows same sex couples to get married. If that makes you happy, congratulations!!"
"...try and teach my kids that there's nothing wrong with that, and I'll f***ing shoot you."
Ring of Honor has since come out with a statement of their own on their Twitter page in response to these remarks:
"Ring of Honor Wrestling respects and appreciates every fan regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or sexual preference. The recent post by Jay Briscoe does not represent the views or opinions of Ring of Honor Wrestling, its owners, management, or employees."
Briscoe has since deleted his Twitter account.
Briscoe is certainly entitled to his opinion on the issue of gay marriage and I do share his concern for what his children may or may not be educated on in the public school system, as should any parent regardless of subject.
The fact remains, however, that Briscoe openly threatening physical violence on anyone is a bit disturbing. It's not the opinion that has caused a furor in my mind, but it's how he said it. There's some things you just don't do and this is one of them.
Sinclair Broadcast Group surely isn't done with this subject and any possible discipline for Briscoe. If any further developments occur, we'll post them.
