Tommy Morrison couldn’t knockout his demons
Former WBO heavyweight titleholder Tommy Morrison passed away late Sunday night at the age of 44 at a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
After testing positive for HIV in 1996, Morrison (49-3-1, 44KOs) last exited the squared circle in February 2008 with a third round TKO victory over Matt Weishaar.
Despite battling the life-threatening disease for nearly 18 years, Morrison’s family has not released the cause of death.
A bruising slugger with a vicious left hook, “The Duke” only lost to the legendary Lennox Lewis, legitimate badass Ray Mercer and some guy named Michael Bentt.
Although a dominant force in the ring, Morrison’s lifestyle prevented him from becoming an elite prizefighter.
Pinched for drugs, driving shitfaced, assault, and possessing weapons over the span of a decade, the Rocky V star disrespected and abused his ample talents.
Sadly, Tommy Morrison was ultimately his own toughest opponent.
