Thank you to Tracy, who attended Dutch Mantell’s premiere one-man show at Zanies in Nashville, TN on Wednesday night, and sent along the following reaction. Remember, you can send live event reports in to us at either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
I have gone to Mick Foley’s one-man show before, so I sort of knew what I would be getting into with this, but I wasn’t sure how good a show Dutch would be. By the end of the night though, my fear was gone and I really enjoyed the night. Dutch told some great stories and worked in some really funny jokes along the way.
The show started on time at 7:30. There were two comedians who appeared first – one of whom their name I didn’t get. The other was Chris Killian, and he was pretty funny even though I never heard of him before. A quick look around the room at the time Dutch came to the stage showed a roughly 70-75% full room. Nice size crowd – I think the place seats around 250.
Dutch limped to the stage, but I think that’s a result of leg issues he had last year that he was still recovering from. He put on a fantastic show. He told a lot of great stories about guys like JBL, Randy Savage, and places he had been like Memphis, Japan, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. He told a hilarious story about the Hogan/Gawker trial and talked about if he had made a sex tape of his own. He talked very positively about WWE also, saying he wished them the best. He went some 90 minutes with few low spots – hard to believe he had never done one of these type of shows before.
If you get a chance to go see Dutch, do it. This was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it immensely.
