In what some might view a bit of an eyebrow-raising move, WWE addressed the second suspension of former Divas Champion Paige in comments to the New York Post. WWE generally does not comment on these matters openly.
As noted in posts yesterday on the site, Paige was dealt a 60-day suspension for her second violation of the company Wellness Policy. Paige then took to social media to call out the company, insinuating there were different rules for talent based on status and to not get prescriptions or doctor’s notes as they are “not acceptable.” Even her father got involved, saying the care she has been getting in the United States “has not been forthcoming.”
WWE released a statement to the New York Post as follows:
“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug,” WWE’s statement to The Post read. “In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”
As noted, this is the second time Paige has been hit with a suspension since August 18.
Bill Says: For WWE to comment publicly on suspensions is not common as they usually keep that sort of information in house. In this case though, after being called out on social media by her family and by Paige, I am guessing the company needed to tell their side of the story. The relationship between the two continues to be strained, and one has to wonder if she’s going to make an exit sometime in 2016.
